ERS Congress Chair Award 2016

Malcolm Green Presented to: Sir Malcolm Green

Professor Malcolm Green has a long and prestigious history in respiratory medicine – working for over 30 years as a consultant physician at St Bartholomew's and the Royal Brompton Hospitals in London. His commitment to the care of patients with lung disorders is grounded in many years of clinical practice, research and teaching. His research has included pioneering work on the concept of the lung's "silent zone" and the initiation of new techniques for clinical measurement of respiratory muscle strength.

Professor Green was also instrumental in founding the British Lung Foundation to raise funds for research, improve awareness of lung disorders, and support patients. Additionally, he has served as the Dean of the National Heart and Lung Institute twice (1980s/2000s), and Campus Dean at St Mary's Medical School. He was Principal of the specialist postgraduate medical institutes of London (the largest postgraduate medical college in Europe at the time), and spent a year at the Department of Health as Director of R&D for the NHS with a budget of £500M per year.

Although retired, Professor Green still has medical connections and active involvement with the Royal Brompton as medical adviser to Urgent Care Centres in London and his studies.
