The transport ticket is not included in the registration fee but it can be purchased in advance when you register or on-site at any of the Registration Desks. For the ERS International Congress 2016, you can purchase a smartcard valid for journeys on the London Underground (known as the Tube), Buses and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in zones 1–3. The cost of the card for ERS delegates is £28 with a value of £30 (15% discount with regards to the prices at the Tube stations or online). Read the 'train' section below to find out more.

Travel information
The ERS International Congress, 2016 is taking place at the ExCeL Conference Centre in London. This is an accessible location whether you are travelling by air, train, public transport or car. There are a variety of options available:

London is very accessible. It has five international airports and the Congress location can be accessed from all of them. London City Airport is the closest to the Congress venue. The airports are all listed below and the relevant travel details are noted.

Heathrow (LHR)
Rail - Heathrow Express
Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington station (15 minute travel time from Heathrow to Paddington). Heathrow Express departures every 15 minutes.
From Paddington station take the Bakerloo London Underground line to Baker Street. At Baker Street change onto the Jubilee Line (eastbound) and alight at Canning Town, then take the DLR to Custom House (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). Average journey time: 50 minutes.
Rail - Tube
All terminals at Heathrow Airport are served by the London Underground. Take the Piccadilly Line to Green Park and change to the Jubilee Line (eastbound). Exit at Canning Town and take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). Average journey time: 1 hour 10 minutes. Transport tickets travel Zones 1-6 required.

Rail - DLR
You can use the Docklands Light Rail (DLR) from London City Airport to ExCeL. Take a DLR train from the airport in the direction of Bank or Stratford, alight at Canning Town and change to platform three for a Beckton bound service to Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). Approximate journey time: 15 minutes. Transport tickets travel Zone 1–3 required.

Rail - Gatwick Express and Tube
Take the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station. From Victoria Station take the District/Circle London Underground line. At Westminster change onto the Jubilee line (eastbound) to Canning Town and then take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016).

Rail - Stansted Express and Tube
Take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street. At Liverpool Street get the Central Line (eastbound) to Stratford and then change with the DLR to Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). Take the free shuttle bus to Luton Airport Parkway station to catch a train to King’s Cross St. Pancras. Change on to the Northern line (southbound) to Bank and then take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). Approximate journey time: 1 hour 30 minutes. Transport tickets to Central London can be purchased at Luton Airport Parkway station.

Underground and Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
The best way to get to ERS Congress 2016 is by using the London Underground (Tube) and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The quickest and most economical way to travel on public transport in London is by using a Visitor Oyster card (see more information below).
The Jubilee Line is the quickest route. Exit at Canning Town then change to the DLR (upstairs from the Jubilee Line level - trains normally depart from platform 3).
Prince Regent is the station for the ERS Congress 2016 main entrance - ExCeL east entrance. Custom House station is ExCeL west entrance that is only accessible with your congress badge.
Please note: If you do not have a congress badge you will need to go to ExCeL east entrance (DLR station Prince Regent) and to the registration hall in order to print it off.

Note: Please be aware that DLR trains in the direction of Beckton serve ExCeL London - do not use DLR services in the direction of Woolwich Arsenal or King George V from Canning Town.
Visitor Oyster cards (recommended for public transport)
The quickest and most economical way to travel on public transport in London is a Visitor Oyster card.
The transport ticket is not included in the registration fee but it can be purchased in advance or on-site at the Transport Ticket desk.
For the ERS International Congress 2016, you can purchase a smartcard valid for journeys on the London Underground (known as the Tube), Buses and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in zones 1–3.
The cost of the card for ERS delegates is £28 – 15% cheaper than if bought directly at Tube stations or online.
The card is loaded with £30 of credit and the correct fare is automatically calculated on each journey according to the zone, when you touch in on the yellow reader at the start of the journey and touch out at the end in order to avoid incurring maximum fare charges.
If you travel within zones 1-3 (from the city centre to the Congress venue) and always touch in and out correctly, the card should last for four days.
Should you need to top up your credit, you will be able to do so at any underground station using the machines provided.
Visitor Oyster cards do not expire and they can be reused on future visits. Please note they are not refundable. For more information on the cost of individual journeys, visit the Transport for London website. -
Eurostar
The Eurostar arrives at St Pancras International Station in London. From there, take the Northern (black) line to Bank station and change onto the Docklands Light Rail (DLR) towards Beckton and Exit at Custom House for the west entrance (only accessible with a congress badge) or Prince Regent for the east entrance (main entrance for ERS Congress 2016). You can also travel down to the Jubilee (grey) Line to Canning Town and change onto the DLR from there.

Arriving by car:
ExCeL - London is easily reached from Central London via the Limehouse Link and via the M25 (Junction 30), A13, M11, A406 (North Circular), the Blackwall Tunnel and Rotherhithe Tunnel from other parts of the country. When driving to ExCeL London follow signs for Royal Docks, City Airport and ExCeL - London.

Arriving by riverboat:
Thames Clippers operate riverboat services from the major Central London piers (including The O2, Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Tower, London Bridge, Embankment and Waterloo) every 20 minutes during peak hours (from 6am to 1am). The closest Pier to ExCeL is North Greenwich (the O2) and from there, there are 2 ways to get to ExCeL:
- Take the Emirates Air Line Cable Car across the river (the crossing takes 5 minutes) and walk to the West entrance (about 5 minutes’ walk) or to the East entrance (about 10 minutes’ walk).
- From North Greenwich Pier walk to North Greenwich station (5 minutes), then get the Jubilee line for 1 stop to Canning Town and then the DLR to Custom House (for West entrance) or Prince Regent (for East Entrance). This way the journey would take about 15-20 minutes in total.
Arriving by cable car:
Emirates Air Line cable car to the Emirates Air Line Royal Docks Terminal, which is a five minute walk from DLR station Custom House (ExCeL west entrance) or 10 minutes from DLR station Prince Regent (ExCeL east entrance).
When travelling to ExCeL you can reach the Cable Car by taking the London Underground Jubilee Line to North Greenwich or a Thames Clippers riverboat from Central London Piers.
The 1.1km long river crossing between Greenwich and the Royal Docks takes about 5 minutes.

Currency
The UK's currency is the pound sterling (£ / GBP). Credit cards are widely accepted.
Climate
Though it does not rain every day, it is advisable to bring an umbrella, along with comfortable shoes for walking.

The mother tongue is English, but over 230 languages are spoken in London.
Electricity
The United Kingdom, like most other European countries, uses 230- Volt/50 Hz AC current. Plugs have three rectangular prongs that form a triangle. Plan to bring an adapter plug and even a transformer for your personal appliances. Many hotels have international sockets to accommodate other plugs.
