ERS Gold Medal in Interstitial Lung Disease

Bruno Crestani

Professor Bruno Crestani

Recognising a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of ILD and who is currently pursuing an active research project in ILD.

Bruno Crestani is Professor of Pneumology at the Paris-Diderot University, and Head of the Department of Pneumology A at the Bichat-Claude Bernard hospital, Paris. He is also the coordinator of the constitutive reference center for rare pulmonary diseases in the same institution.

He is the director of the Inserm research group "Inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis" at the Xavier Bichat medical school.

Professor Crestani's research interests include the genetics of pulmonary fibrosis and the pathophysiology of fibrotic lung disorders with the aim of identifying new therapeutic targets.

He notes that the integration of excellent clinical science with biological expertise allows us to build a translational perspective on interstitial lung diseases, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective-tissue disease-associated ILD and alveolar proteinosis.

Bruno Crestani has been involved in many ERS activities over the years; he was elected as the Secretary of Group 3.3 and Assembly 3, and was the Lung Science Conference and Research Seminars Director between 2013 and 2016.

He coordinates with Professor Vincent Cottin, last year's ERS Gold Medal in IPF winner, on the ARIANE Clinical Research Consortium aimed at building an international metaregistry of IPF and other ILDs under the auspices of ERS.

  • The ERS Gold Medal in ILD grants €50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of ILD. This prize is financially supported by Boehringer Ingelheim.
