Dr Lara Pisani

The winner of the ERS Cournand Lecturer Award will present their work at the Cournand lecture, this year focusing on new paradigms in extracorporeal lung assistance.

Lara Pisani is currently working at the Respiratory and Critical Care Unit, Sant'Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital-Bologna, Italy.

Her research focuses on better understanding the role of extracorporeal CO2 removal in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In particular, her PhD concentrated on the efficacy of extracorporeal CO2 removal technique to avoid intubation and to facilitate weaning in mechanically ventilated hypercapnic patients. These studies led to numerous well-cited papers in high-impact journals and to prestigious awards.

Other research interests include: acute respiratory failure, non invasive mechanical ventilation, patient-ventilator interaction, high flow oxygen therapy, and respiratory muscle and ethics.

She has presented over 100 abstracts in provincial, national and international meetings and been an invited speaker at numerous institutions and eminent meetings.
