ERS ELF Award 2016

In 2015, the UK-based newspaper The Sunday Times, led by Environment Editor Jonathan Leake, launched a clean air campaign.

The campaign called for:

  • Better monitoring of air pollution
  • Easier access to information about pollution levels and
  • More action to curb pollution

Alongside the supporting articles and range of topics covered, the campaign was also the first to expose the discrepancy between the emissions that the manufacturers of diesel cars claim are produced and what they actually produce on the road (which happened before the Volkswagen "defeat device" scandal broke).

The theme of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign (HLFL) 2016/2017 is clean air, and many activities will be carried out over the course of the ERS International Congress in London 2016.
