Hear from ERS officers

ERS has a dedicated assembly to thoracic oncology – made up of professionals from around the world and led by experts in the field. The assembly's early-career representative Dr Nina Bostantzoglou (NB) offers some insights into this year's Congress:

As an early-career professional with a focus on thoracic oncology, why is the upcoming Congress valuable to career development?

NB: Each year the Annual Congress gives an update on all new research data, provides high quality education and an excellent environment for networking. Thoracic oncology represents one of the 8 main disease areas, and younger colleagues can strengthen their clinical skills in one of the hands-on workshop on endoscopic technologies. They can also attend the lung cancer Grand Round Clinical, where the will have the chance to interactively challenge their knowledge in lung cancer care through individual, cases. Multiple postgraduate courses are organized, covering all steps of lung cancer management from imaging including thoracic ultrasound and diagnosis with interventional pulmonology to modern approaches of treatment. Researchers can visit the numerous poster sessions; this year a more interactive format is being introduced the poster discussion session. Also introduced for the first time, the Game Zone, is the place that all younger clinician should visit, as they can test their knowledge in an interactive space with individual game stations connected to the ERS self-assessment learning platform. Last but not least, all early-career members can join the early-career member session on Tuesday afternoon followed by a networking event to meet peers and seniors. It is a great opportunity to discuss fellowships, collaborations and new research ideas.
