Allied respiratory professionals
Allied Respiratory Professionals (ARPs), including physiotherapists, technologists, scientists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and nutritionists, are involved at all stages of respiratory care, from prevention, diagnosis, and evaluation, to treatment and management of acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
ARPs are particularly involved in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic respiratory conditions, and are often the patient's first point of contact. There has also been increasing evidence for ARP-led interventions, serving to strengthen the role of ARPs in disease management programmes, and highlighting the importance of the transfer of knowledge between different professional groups and in multidisciplinary teams.
At this year's Congress, we are pleased to offer a range of sessions and educational activities to address the needs, current issues and future developments in respiratory care from a multidisciplinary perspective.
Irene Steenbruggen, Head of ERS Assembly 9, the Assembly for Allied Respiratory Professionals, highlights: "There are so many reasons to attend the Congress, to keep knowledge and skills up-to-date, bring new ideas back to work, but perhaps the most important reason is the outstanding opportunities for networking, meeting experts face-to-face and like-minded colleagues from all over the world, making new friends and mixing and mingling.
"It is not easy to select a session from among the many equally interesting and innovative sessions offered at this year's Congress. You shouldn't miss our Assembly meeting on Sunday, 16 September from 17:00-18:00 in Room 7.1A. In this meeting we will give an update on membership, scientific and educational activities and we are delighted that we can present three ERS Travel Grants at this meeting. After this meeting we will mix and mingle at our Assembly 9 cocktail reception."
