Programme highlight: personalised medicine

As chronic diseases, including respiratory diseases, become more prevalent, healthcare costs are rising. The ability to characterise individuals in order to treat and prevent disease based on individual predisposition, will be increasingly valuable.

Personalised respiratory medicine is an exciting and evolving field. This year's Congress showcases the latest information in personalised respiratory medicine through a variety of sessions, courses, hot topic sessions and a symposium – touching on topics such as endotyping, molecular phenotyping and nutrition and respiratory health.

Professor Stephen Holgate, ERS Science Council Chair noted: "Personalised respiratory medicine is an evolving field supported by new and exciting technological developments. There are clear benefits to adopting a shift towards personalised medicine, not least because of its great potential for making health systems more efficient and effective and improving quality of life for patients. This year's Congress will place a spotlight on some of the most recent and exciting developments relating to respiratory medicine."
