ERS Education Award
Presented to: Professor Konrad E. Bloch At the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 3 September 2016 from 17:45 in the Auditorium. The Educational Award is presented by ERS to honour a European clinician, scientist, allied respiratory health professional or individual in any other profession, who has made a contribution of extraordinary magnitude to education in respiratory medicine at a European or international level.

ERS Yernault Lecture Award
Presented to: Professor Anita K. Simonds At the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 3 September 2016 from 17:45 in the Auditorium. The lecture will be given on Monday 5 September from 08:30 in room L, after the symposium "Latest development in non-invasive ventilation: improvements and gadgets". The Jean-Claude Yernault Lecture honours active members of ERS who have made an outstanding contribution to education in respiratory medicine or the allied professions. Belgian-born J-C. Yernault was Chair of the first ERS Annual Congress in Brussels in 1991, ERS President 1991–1992 and the first Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Journal (1988–1989). He was also instrumental in the creation of the European School of Respiratory Medicine (ERS School) in 1992, which he chaired from 1992 to 1998.

The ERS Congress Chair award is awarded this year as a marker of the awardees commitment to the care of patients with lung disorders and their contribution to research and training in this area.

The ERS Gold Medal in Asthma grants €50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of asthma and who is currently pursuing an active research project in asthma. This prize is financially supported by AstraZeneca.

Awarded in recognition of excellence in the field of COPD research. The ERS COPD Gold Medal grants €50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of COPD and who is currently pursuing an active research project in COPD. This prize is financially supported by Boehringer Ingelheim.

The ERS COPD Gold Medal grants €50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of ILD and who is currently pursuing an active research project in ILD. ERS Romain Pauwels Research Award
Presented to: Dr Soni Savai Pullamsetti During the Scientific Year in Review 2016, which is scheduled on Sunday, 4 September from 08:30 in the Auditorium. With the support of GlaxoSmithKline, ERS offers an award of €50,000 to encourage a new generation of lung scientists and to support young researchers in their quest to understand and treat respiratory illnesses. This award is dedicated to the memory of Professor Romain Pauwels (1943–2005) for his efforts in fighting asthma and COPD.

ERS Pulmonary Hypertension Research Award
Presented to: Dr David Montani During the symposium "Future challenges in PAH", which is scheduled on Tuesday, 6 September from 14:45 in the room Prince Regent. The ERS Pulmonary Hypertension Research Award grant €40,000 is offered to one awardee who is researcher and is pursuing an active research project in the pulmonary hypertension field (including basic science, pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention, clinical practice, diagnosis, treatment, or rehabilitation). This prize is financially supported by Bayer.

ERS Award for Lifetime Achievement in Pulmonary Artetial Hypertension
Presented to: Dr Anton Vonk Noordegraaf During the Hot topic session "PAH: future therapeutic approaches", which is scheduled on Monday, 5 September from 10:45 in the Auditorium. With the support of Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd., ERS offers a €10,000 award to an investigator in recognition of lifetime achievements, and advances and successful research in the field of pulmonary arterial hypertension. The award is reserved for ERS members and is to be used for further research.

ERS Research Award: Innovation in Non-tuberculosis Mycobacteria Science and Medicine
Presented to: Dr Jakko Van Ingen During the symposium "Respiratory infections in high-income countries: old challenges and new threats", which is scheduled on Wednesday 7 September from 08:30 in room E. The ERS Research Award: Innovation in Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) Science and Medicine is granted for € 10,000. This Award is offered to one awardee who is a researcher and pursuing an active research project in the NTM lung disease field. Note that there are no geographical restrictions. The candidates must be ERS members. This prize is financially supported by Insmed.

Sir John Vane Grant for Best Recent Publication in Pulmonary Vascular Research
Presented to: Dr Alice Huertas During the Assembly Members' Meeting "Clinical Physiology, Sleep and Pulmonary Circulation", which is scheduled on Sunday, 4 September from 13:00 in the room Platinum 1+2. The Sir John Vane Award for Best Publication in Pulmonary Vascular Research is a grant of €2,500 that is offered with the support of United Therapeutics Europe Ltd. The Sir John Vane Award is given to the best recent publication on pulmonary vascular research that furthers our scientific understanding of the pharmacology, biology, genetics or pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension.
