The Sadoul Lecture is intended to honour senior scientists with a worldwide reputation in commemoration of the French scientist Paul Sadoul.

 

Dirkje Postma has a broad research interest covering the scientific palette of both asthma and COPD, from basic science to clinically-oriented and patient-associated research. She is a translational researcher pur sang.

Dr Postma has developed her research in conjunction with her clinical and teaching duties and has been able to translate questions from clinical practice to basic research and vice-versa. These questions relate to benefits and side effects of ICS, underlying mechanisms of circadian rhythm in physiological functions, relevance and types of hyperresponsiveness, and small airways dysfunction in asthma and COPD, among others.

She is an active promoter of pulmonary diseases in the Netherlands Respiratory Society (NRS), and holds numerous administrative and editorial positions in the Netherlands and abroad. She collaborates with many leading scholars in her field and has published over 800 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
