ERS Jean-Claude Yernault Lecture Award 2019
Professor Gernot Rohde
Full professor and head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the Goethe University Hospital, Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Prof. Rohde completed his medical training in universities in Bochum, Strasbourg, London, and Maastricht before entering the Frankfurt University Hospital. After obtaining his MD and PhD degrees with a specialty in internal medicine and pneumology, Prof. Rohde accepted a position at the University of Maastricht, where he was Associated Professor from 2011 to 2017. In addition to his clinical tasks, he devoted himself intensively to research from the beginning of his career, with the focus on respiratory infections. He completed a one-year research stay at the Imperial College in London. His scientific output amounts to more than 100 original publications, 25 review articles as well as numerous book contributions and editorials. Prof. Rohde has been CEO of the CAPNETZ Foundation since 2009 and Principal Investigator in the German Centre for Lung Research. In addition, he is a founding member of ISARIC, an International Consortium for Severe Acute Respiratory Tract Infections (SARI) and coordinator of the Regional Hub Europe, and a member of the Board. As a previous HERMES Director and recent Chair of the ERS Education Council he has demonstrated a commitment to education and has had a central role in shaping the educational activities of the ERS and leading on new educational initiatives. The ERS Jean-Claude Yernault Lecture Award will be presented during the Yearnaul lecture entitled 'Improving respiratory health through education', taking place on Monday 30 September, 2019 from 10.45 in Room 9E.
